Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred is reportedly a major target for Manchester City.
The Brazilian played against the runaway Premier League leaders twice in the group stage of this season’s Champions League and fared well, apparently impressing Pep Guardiola, City boss.
According to a report in the Telegraph, Guardiola is continually monitoring his progress and will look to make a move before this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
City are understood to be looking at the 24-year-old Brazilian as a long-term replacement for Fernandinho, who turns 33 this year.
Fred tested positive for the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide in a sample collected at the 2015 Copa América and in March 2017 was disqualified until July 2017.
