Lucas: “My ambition is to become a starter in the Athletic”

The French central Atletico Madrid Lucas Hernández, who expanded on Monday its contract in a season until 2020, said Tuesday that his “ambition” is to become head of the rojiblanco club, a team that hopes to “fight for everything” this season.

“I am a very ambitious player, my ambition is to be a starter on this team. I know it’s difficult, I will fight so that competition is greater in the locker room and the coach can trust me anytime,” said Lucas conference press in the Ciudad Deportiva de Majadahonda, after completing the first of two training sessions on Tuesday.

The 20-year defender this summer acknowledged that other clubs were interested in his signing. “It is true that there was interest from other teams, but in my head was always Atletico. I took the decision to renew because I think it is the club that has formed me and where I want to improve personal and collective level,” he said.

Lucas said that Diego Simeone Argentina coach talked to him before extending his contract. “Since I started with him two years ago always trust me, always gave me the chance. He said if I was here I would be with open arms, it would be an important player and to be patient, that everything comes” he said.

For the young French defender, the goal of this year’s Atletico is “fight for everything” as last year. “The goal is the same every year, try to be as high as possible and fight for all competitions,” he said.
